Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Course

Paramedics play a crucial role in an emergency – they are the first line medical providers, giving emergency and critical care to sustain the life of the patient until they reach a medical facility. The eleven week EMT course, which complies with the guidelines of the Ministry of Health (MOH), is comprised of the paramedic syllabus and provides participants with a broad range of medical knowledge, with a focus on casualty care using the Patient Assessment model (PAM).


The pre-requisite for the course is as follows:

  • Education : At least 3 GCE "O" levels and Pass in English
  • Medical : NS PES A to PES C


  • Paramedic and clinical topics
  • Casualty care
  • Provision of healthcare
  • Airway management
  • Management of trauma emergencies using PAM
  • Management of medical emergencies using PAM
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) Course


After passing the course, Paramedics are required to undergo a 40 hour CME programme to maintain core competencies and to enhance confidence in performing technical skills. In addition, all paramedics are required to complete at least 16 hours per month in an ambulance service sector.

We have a panel of doctors who conduct regular talks/seminars/workshops to ensure all medical personnel are kept abreast of the latest medical knowledge so that they can function at the top of their clinical proficiency.


At the end of the course, participants must undertake a theory and practical test, hospital attachments and 20 hours of ambulance attachment. Upon completion a certificate, valid for 2 years, will be issued to the participants.

Before the ambulance attachment, the participant must pass the practical test which includes inserting an LMA, spinal management, performing an intravenous (IV) catheter and interpreting the ECG.
